C. Richard Crosby Distinguished Teaching Chair in Computer Science

Dr. Charles Richard "Dick" Crosby received his B.S, M.S., and Ph.D. in Physics from Louisiana State University and worked for Texas Instruments before coming to the College in 1972. He established the Department of Computer Science and served as Chair for many years. Dr. Crosby passed on April 28, 2020 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dr. Crosby endowed the C. Richard Crosby Distinguished Teaching Chair upon his retirement in 2000 to award excellence in teaching among tenured and tenure-track faculty in Computer Science at the College of Charleston. The holder must devote a substantial amount of time to teaching through classroom instruction. Research that does not involve students and other academic successes are secondary to teaching prowess and a strong devotion to students. The chair is selected on a biennial basis by the department chair through an objective process and validated by the faculty.
