Crossing the Cistern
The School of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering Crossing the Cistern (SSME-CTC) is a one-year momentum program targeting the re-engagement of students and improvement of academic standing to achieve academic, professional, and personal success. The program focuses on the inclusion, retention and well-being of students, with emphasis on serving individuals of under-represented populations including women in science, math and engineering. In addition to $650 of scholarship support per academic year, students accepted to the SSME-CTC program will receive academic advising, one-on-one and group mentoring by SSME faculty, extracurricular programming and interactive peer communities to help students navigate the academic experience.
Program Eligibility:
- Declaration of a major within SSME
- minimum of 30 credit hours
- GPA: 2.0 – 2.99
- One-year commitment to the program
Program Support:
- $650 per year with positive engagement in the program activities

- NOTE: Select applicants will be invited to a 10-15 minute Zoom discussion with the SSME-CTC Coordinator (Dr. Brooke A. Van Horn, vanhornba@cofc.edu) prior to acceptance into the program.
