SSMEB opened in 2010 and houses the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, the Department of Geology & Environmental Geosciences, the Lowcountry Hazards Center, and the Mace Brown Museum of Natural History.

RITA HOLLINGS SCIENCE CENTER

The newly renovated RITA reopened in Summer 2018 and is home to The Department of Biology and the Department of Physics & Astronomy. The building earned two Green Globes certifications as it makes use of natural light, a rainwater capture system, and low flow, energy-efficient fume hoods.

The Department of Computer Science resides at Harbor Walk East, just a short walk, bike or trolley ride from The Cistern. Nestled in Silicon Harbor, HWEA boasts a Student Innovation Center that allows majors to co-locate with industry partners in the region.

GRICE MARINE LAB
205 Fort Johnson Road

Grice Marine Lab is our core facility for teaching programs in marine sciences. Partner institutions at Fort Johnson include Medical University of South Carolina; National Institute of Standards and Technology, South Caroline Department of Natural Resources, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

FIELD STATIONS at STONO PRESERVE
Hollywood, SC

Students can study botany, water quality, ornithology, forest management, herpetology, and much more on this 930-acre natural reserve located just 17 miles from campus. Lab students are transported by College van to and from the site. Faculty and students may also conduct year-round research on the property.
